In 1854, Louis Vuitton opened his luggage business, and introduced the steamer bag in 1901 as a little piece of luggage meant to be carried inside larger trunks. Later, the US-American Railroad used it as a mailbag from the 1920s-1930s. Wells Fargo Express agents also used it to transport cash and other financial instruments.
In 2015, we reinvented it in as a comfortable, versatile, vintage inspired backpack for the next century and beyond. In 2020, we re-imagined it once more to carry forward is striking head-turning looks while morphing it into a highly-functional rucksack / backpack statement piece for today's adventurer. Lightweight (less than 4 lbs) with an easy-opening clasp is hidden underneath the authentically styled top flap.
Our signature 100% full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather contrasts at the base and top reminiscent of the original material used for the historic leather mail bag.
"Let me tell you, it is a functional work of art. This bag is exceptionally well crafted. The leather is high quality. Even one of my patient told me he eyed it since the day I walked on the unit with it. He was all gaga and is coming to your site to get one. Get this work of art. It is really, really nice..."
